Nusch Herman

Nusch is a qualified yoga and meditation teacher and Reiki practitioner who has studied a variety of disciplines including Kundalini, Hatha, Iyengar, restorative, Yin and chair yoga.  Nusch is particularly passionate about creating a supportive environment for mature-age students to discover how yoga and meditation can support physical strength as we age, as well as supporting our mental and spiritual wellbeing.

Nusch studied Iyengar yoga for six years from her late 20s, before parenting and a long career in the public service (arts, social inclusion, gender and mental health policy) diverted her from her yoga practice. While not an Iyengar teacher, Nusch is grateful that this practice provided a foundation for understanding safe alignment, making yoga accessible to any age or level of flexibility.

Nusch returned to yoga and meditation a few years ago resulting in what she describes as a transformative process for her physical and emotional health and wellbeing. Through her extensive training and life experience she is committed to supporting people to explore a healthy and powerful ageing process and discover a deeper sense of who you are.

Nusch brings her own creative and caring style to teaching and is deeply invested in encouraging her students to enjoy their practice, find their limits and learn to expand within them.

Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan

Kundalini means energy. Kundalini yoga is a technology using a recipe of specific movement, combined with breath and meditation that is used to work on the chakras. It is yoga for the householder, it can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what your experience, age or flexibility. It is the yoga of awareness, it has been designed so that you can surrender your ego and allow yourself to journey through your own experience. It teaches us to harness the energy of our mind and emotions so that we can be in control of ourselves, rather than being controlled by our thoughts and emotions.

A typical class will begin by ‘tuning in’ and a breathing practice to centre ourselves and bring us into the present moment. We move into a series of postures to stretch, relax, strengthen or energise us, which assists in moving any energy blocks and focusing the mind.  A deep relaxation will then prepare us for a meditation. Tea is served at the end of the class and conversation is warmly welcomed.
